Newport Company plays key role in new Ystrad Mynach hospital project
Access to a multi-million pound hospital development in Ystrad Mynach has been improved thanks to a storm drainage solution, known as Weholite, from Newport-based Asset International ltd (Asset).
The manufacturer of high density polyethylene pipes (HDPE) has been commissioned by contractors for the project, BAM Nuttall, to provide a system that will manage excess water on the road leading up to the hospital.
The Weholite storm water drainage technology provided by Asset will ensure rain water runs safely off the carriageway into a tank that will release it slowly through connecting pipes into the River Rhymney.
This improvements form part of the second phase of a Caerphilly County Borough Council project to redevelop two major roads as part of a wider scheme to improve access to the new £172 million Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital. The road works are designed to cut congestion and improve traffic flow.
The hospital, which will serve the 170,000 population of the Caerphilly district, is set for completion this summer and is the largest hospital investment in Wales for more than 30 years.
Asset, which is part of the UK-based infrastructure, building and construction products group, Hill & Smith Holding Plc, is also currently providing a storm water management system for a brand new housing development in Caldicot.
Managing director of Asset, Simon Thomas, said: “We are always pleased to be involved in local projects, which will benefit our local communities.
“We provide high-end, bespoke solutions to the water industry across the UK and our Weholite product has developed an excellent reputation for its ease of use, cost saving capabilities and environmental benefits due to its light weight.”
